Turkeys and Time Machines

Contributed by Ashlee Hartger, Marketing Manager

It’s the year 2000. My best friend and I are in my grandma’s living room dancing to Blink-182’s “All the Small Things.” We crank the volume just as Tom DeLonge’s perfectly nasal voice sings “Turn the lights off, carry me home” and collapse into a fit of “Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, nas.” Then, for the nineteenth time, we rewind the cassette tape, and start the song over.

Music has the unique ability to encapsulate our fondest memories. With the crash of a symbol or the riff of a guitar, we’re transported to another year, another decade, another time. One minute you’re sitting at your computer, wrapping up another quarter of expense reports and thinking to yourself, “How did I get behind on these again?” when Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” comes streaming through your speakers. And that’s all it takes. Suddenly, you’re 17 again, rocking acid washed jeans, a mullet, and that quintessential devil-may-care attitude that only comes from the world being, new, fresh, and yours for the taking. And as the final notes begin to fade, you find yourself back in present day, thinking back on those memories (and that stellar hair) with a headshake and a smile. Music is nature’s time machine.

Like youth, JB Ashtin’s journey is defined by a soundtrack, but not in the traditional sense. No, our team isn’t jamming to AC/DC as we prepare for poster season (or are we?!). Rather, our soundtrack is comprised of the sounds of relationships being built, connections being made, and the sweet rhythms and groove we’ve cultivated with the wonderful clients and people we’ve been fortunate enough to partner with for the last 2 decades.

You all are the “Sweet Carolines” of our lives. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you as you impact and improve patient care.

From this sentiment, JB Ashtin’s sixth annual holiday cookbook was born. It’s our great pleasure to share with you, JB Ashtin’s Platinum Playlist: a collection of our team’s favorite recipes (some traditional, some not), wrapped in classic elements of music, and of course, puns. Pairs well with nostalgia, family, and friends. We hope you enjoy them!

As a bonus, in the spirit of the thanks, members of our team would like to express our appreciation to you for being the true rock stars that you are.

We thank you for your commitment to physician education; your goal to develop effective therapies that target serious maladies; and, most importantly, your desire to improve the lives of patients. Your impact is greater than you know.

Warmest wishes this holiday season.

The JB Ashtin team
