For us at JB Ashtin, we proudly show up each day with purpose, humility, and drive. We use every ounce of our creativity, strategic insight, and scientific expertise to make sure that life-changing information reaches the people who need it, clearly, meaningfully, and responsibly.
This MedComms Day, we’re not just celebrating the field of medical communications, we’re celebrating the people behind it. Their stories, their growth, and their impact. That’s the heart of this year’ MedComms Day campaign: Pride in Profession.
The People Behind the Precision
Medical communications is an industry that moves fast. We often face challenges with new data, new platforms, new regulations, and increasing expectations from patients, healthcare providers, and clients. We’ve proven year after year, our success in MedComms comes down to our people.
At JB Ashtin, we’ve built a team that balances scientific rigor with emotional intelligence and strategy with compassion. This week, we asked 5 team members to reflect on what makes their work meaningful and what gives them pride in what they do. Here’s what they had to say:

“It just clicked.”
Lisa Pitchford, PhD, CMPP, Scientific Director
A former physiologist, Lisa found her way to MedComms through a love of science and an equal passion for communication. Today, she leads rare disease strategy with empathy and insight.
“MedComms was where science, strategy, and storytelling all intersected. It clicked for me.”
Lisa recalls a recent project where her team collaborated with a family affected by a rare pediatric neurodevelopmental condition. The goal wasn’t to dramatize their experience; instead, the focus was on highlighting how small, meaningful changes in care can be life-altering. A well-told story helped humanize complex clinical endpoints, anchoring them to real people and helping our clients and regulators better understand the patient experience
“I found a path.”
Morgan Gingerich, PhD, Senior Medical Writer
After earning her PhD, Morgan sought clarity on the next step in her professional journey. She found it through Catalyst, JB Ashtin’s postdoctoral fellowship program, which helps early-career scientists transition into MedComms roles through a 1-year fellowship for those with an advanced life science degree who want a career in medical communications and have a passion for writing.
“It was the perfect bridge between my academic background and a professional career in MedComms.”
After her fellowship, Morgan has helped craft high-impact manuscripts, internal training materials, and product launch communications, all while supporting the next wave of Catalyst fellows.

“It made me proud.”
Jay Parekh, PharmD, CMPP, Associate Scientific Director
Jay’s journey into MedComms was fueled by an interest in biostatistics and a gift for teaching. But his proudest moment came when a presentation he helped create was spotlighted at an international meeting.
“That was the moment I realized the scale of impact our work can have.”
For Jay, that’s what makes the work worth it; knowing that every slide, every sentence, every graphic might help a clinician make a more informed patient-care decision.
“We’re growing more than skills.”
Kersten Reich, MPH, DrPH, CMPP, VP, Scientific Services
With more than 2 decades of experience in the industry, Kersten focuses on building systems, teams, and people. She’s helped shape JB Ashtin’s training and onboarding approach so that new hires grow not only in skill, but also in confidence and strategic vision.
“We spend time getting the right people in the right seats, then we grow them well.”
From lunch-and-learns to customized learning tracks, Kersten ensures the team stays nimble and adaptive in an evolving landscape.

“Design makes science stick.”
Ashley Minear, Visual Content Lead
Science is only as effective as its ability to be understood. That’s where Ashley comes in; she helps translate complex data and medical narratives into clear, engaging visual formats that inform and captivate.
“Creativity isn’t fluff, it’s focus. When people connect to what they see, they remember what they’ve learned.”
From slide decks to social campaigns, Ashley brings a sense of clarity and emotion to visual storytelling, making science more accessible and, ultimately, more powerful.
What Pride in Profession Means to Us
Pride in profession isn’t about perfection. It’s about:
- Investing in people
- Valuing every function
- Translating science into stories that matter
- Mentoring future MedComms professionals
- Listening as much as we lead
JB Ashtin’s work spans scientific publications, medical and commercial launch strategies, HCP engagement, and beyond. At every level, we’re committed to making science understandable, impactful, and enduring.
